Website pre-launch checklist
A launch is successful when content, business actions and technical systems work together on the real domain.

Check content and navigation
Verify titles, facts, contact information, buttons, downloads and internal links. Every important page should have one clear H1 and a logical next action.
Read pages on a mobile screen. Long paragraphs, unclear labels and duplicated sections are easier to notice when space is limited.
Test complete user journeys
Open the site as a new visitor, find a service, follow the call to action and submit the form. Test required fields, invalid data, success messages and email delivery.
Repeat important actions using a keyboard and on more than one browser. A page can look correct while its interactive states remain inaccessible.
Verify search settings
Check indexation, canonical URLs, metadata, hreflang where relevant, structured data, sitemap and robots.txt. Old URLs need deliberate redirects rather than silent disappearance.
Pages intended for search must not carry an accidental noindex directive. Pages that should stay private must not rely only on being absent from navigation.
Review performance and security
Serve appropriately sized modern images, limit unnecessary scripts and check the most important templates on mobile connections. Backups must exist before deployment and should be stored outside the public web directory.
Remove unused accounts, confirm least-privilege access, update supported components and document ownership of domain, hosting, analytics and external services.
Monitor after publication
Check logs, analytics, form events and search-platform reports during the first days. Real traffic and crawlers can reveal issues that were not visible during review.
Record the launch date, backup location and responsible people. Separate urgent faults from improvements that can be prioritised in the next iteration.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Should the site be blocked from indexing before launch?
A private development environment may be blocked, but the final live website must be checked carefully so no temporary restriction remains.
What is the most important launch test?
The complete business journey, including the final form, order or contact confirmation—not just page appearance.
Do all images need WebP or AVIF?
Modern formats help, but correct dimensions, compression, responsive delivery and a useful alt description also matter.
When should redirects be created?
Before old URLs are replaced. The mapping should be tested as part of the launch checklist.
What should be monitored after launch?
Availability, errors, user actions, analytics, indexation, forms, important integrations and unexpected 404 responses.
